Highway 49 north from the showroom runs through Amador City and Drytown and into Plymouth at the Highway 16 junction. Shenandoah Road and the wineries are a few minutes farther east, Fiddletown and River Pines a few beyond that, and Highway 124 comes up from Ione.
Plymouth sits at the gateway to the Shenandoah Valley, with early 1900s houses around Main Street and the Amador County Fairgrounds on one side of Highway 49 and the newer Zinfandel neighborhood and vineyard estates on the other. Second homes and vacation rentals are part of the mix, and their floors have to hold up to guests, luggage and dogs. Homes in Plymouth
The original town along Main Street and near the Amador County Fairgrounds is early 1900s housing: modest wood-frame homes on raised foundations, many with original fir floors under later layers of carpet and vinyl. They are smaller than the Victorians in Sutter Creek and Jackson but share the same settled subfloors. Original fir in the front rooms can often be refinished, and a kitchen from that era usually needs leveling before a new floor goes down.
The Zinfandel development is the other end of the spectrum: recent tract construction on slab foundations with open floor plans, standard door heights and builder-grade finishes. These are straightforward installs. A whole-house luxury vinyl or laminate floor, quartz to replace the builder counter and a tile backsplash update one of these homes without changing its layout.
