From the showroom we take Ridge Road east to Pine Grove, pick up Highway 88 and continue climbing past Pine Grove into Pioneer, toward Buckhorn and Mace Meadow. Pioneer is inside our regular Amador County service area.
Between roughly 3,000 and 4,000 feet along Highway 88, winters are real, driveways are long and many houses belong to people who are only there on weekends or for a season. A floor here has to handle snow boots at the door, dry wood-stove heat all winter and a summer of pine needles and dust.

Homes in Pioneer
Cabins make up the first group around Buckhorn, Mace Meadow and the roads off Highway 88: original log, later timber-frame and manufactured homes on permanent foundations. They have small footprints, a stove or fireplace at the center, step-downs into added rooms and a bathroom that was finished quickly decades ago. Many sit on pier-and-post foundations with crawlspaces that see snowmelt every spring, so moisture-tolerant floors and a proper hearth are the starting points.
The second group is the full-time home built between the 1970s and the 2000s on a few acres, larger and better insulated, sometimes with radiant floor heat or a central wood-burning system.
