From Sutter Creek we take Highway 49 south to Jackson, Highway 88 west to Highway 12, then Highway 12 east into Valley Springs, where it meets Highway 26. It is mostly open two-lane road, about 25 miles door to door.
Valley Springs is single-level ranch homes on acre lots in Rancho Calaveras, golf-course homes at La Contenta, and newer builds along the Highway 12 and Highway 26 corridors. The floors are big, the plans are open and the sun is strong. Rancho Calaveras is the heart of the market, a large subdivision of ranch-style homes built from the 1970s through the 2000s on roughly one-acre parcels, many on slab foundations with open living areas.
